Adding Links To Your Website

Add a link if your company website gives details of your products, if not; please add a part.

Entering The Address - To add a link, first enter the section you would like to be entered into eg. Sports/Golf. At the bottom of this page, click the add a link button. Select your company from the scroll down bar. If your company does not appear, click add and enter your company details. When entering your website address, include http://. You must link to as specific a page as possible, eg if you are in the golfing section, the link should be direct to the plastic golfing products you offer. If the database user cannot find the product you claim to make quickly and easily, they may look elsewhere. A link to a specific page will look something like: http://www.abcplastics.com/products/golf.html..

On many sites, you cannot link directly into certain pages. If this is the case, please make the link as close as possible to the page the user will need eg. http://www.abcplastics.com/products.html

Writing The Description - To get an idea of what the description should say, look at links already on the database. The description should be no more than 100 characters. First it should state A range of.... if you offer many similar or related parts to the part that you are entering. Next it should say your company name. The final part should include a brief but precise description of the part, it's usage, major dimensions etc. This section is searched on when the user enters a keyword for a normal search. However this section is the only visible to the user and keywords should not be included.

The following characters must not be entered / < > \ , " ' ? @. If you attempt to enter any of these characters, your link will not be added.

Entering Keywords - The keyword you enter in this section are used when the user enters a keyword into the standard search box. We reccommend entering between 5 and 20 keywords. Enter singular and plurals for suitable keywords. Enter keywords about the parts usage/function as well as its description (it may be that a customer will want it for something other than it's intended usage). Example ... a coal bunker, the keywords you should use are: coal wood log logs firewood bunker store storage household.

The following characters must not be entered / < > \ , " ' ? @. If you attempt to enter any of these characters, your link will not be added.

Checking Your Link - Once you have entered your link, please ensure that it actually works. To do this, click Home, to update the database, first look in the category you entered the link into, eg. Sports/Golf. You should see the description you enetered and a button next to it marked View. When you click this, it should dial-up your site in the main window (leaving our menu structure in the left hand side).

You should also check that the keywords you gave your link are working. To do this, click Home, to update the database, click Search for products by keywords and enter one of the keywords you gave to your link. The search will display all the parts, products and links with that keyword. Click on the View button next to you site description. It should dial-up your site in the main window (leaving our menu structure in the left hand side).
